From Jam Sessions to Festivals - Meet David Taylor & the Tallboys
David Taylor & the Tallboys is a twangy rock ‘n’ roll band from Charlotte, NC. Having just formed earlier this year, their story is pretty awesome. David Taylor has performed as a solo artist throughout Charlotte for several years, and he found great success doing so. Taylor released a solo EP titled Texas Heat during the summer of 2018, and continued to play at live venues throughout the city after releasing his recorded music. But on a Monday night in early 2019 – as David will say – he got lucky.

Beers with friends turned into an impromptu jam session. Joined by Gersh Godwin on bass, Jason Cline on lead guitar, Wes Hamilton on pedal steel guitar, and Matt Sloop on drums, the group all played Taylor’s music together. Backed by a band, the previously recorded solo music was completely transformed, and David Taylor & the Tallboys were born.
Since that night, the group has played several shows throughout the Queen City, including at festivals, house parties, and local venues like The Evening Muse, The Pour House, and Snug Harbor. Drawing on influences from Bruce Springsteen, John Prine and Sturgill Simpson, the band does an incredible job of getting the crowd dancing and having a great time. Check out this clip of them performing Get A Little Drunk during their recent performance at The Evening Muse.
Because of their recent inception, David Taylor & the Tallboys don’t yet have a recorded album available for listening, but Taylor’s solo EP is available on Spotify. In addition, they will be performing this Sunday 10/20 at The Visulite Theatre in Charlotte along with The Black Lillies. The show starts at 8:00 pm, and tickets are $14 in advance or $18 at the door. For more information, including where to buy tickets in advance, visit the website for The Visulite Theatre here.
